Our second annual Tracy's Kids show is on display at the Carroll Square Gallery, 975 F St., NW, Washington, DC 20004. Our thanks to Akridge and Hemphill Fine Arts for hosting the kids' work so beautifully! The show is up thru January 8, 2010, and the gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., so we hope many of our local friends will be able to stop by!

The Hall of Heroes recognizes the accomplishments of young patients and offers insight and inspiration in the voices of young patients themselves. The Hero's Journey is an art installation put together by Kathleen Barron, Tracy's Kids Art Therapist at CNMC. The installation illustrates the stages of the traditional Hero's Journey using artworks young patients have created.

The Tracy's Kids International Art Exchange exhibit is currently on display at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, DC in the corridor connecting the new Tower building to the Atrium. It will be at CNMC through October.
image113 International Art Exchange Show at Lombardi (3 photos)
The Tracy's Kids International Art Exchange Exhibit premiered at Georgetown Hospital's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center during May, 2008. The 207 works in the show were responses to the theme "The day I will never forget. . . ", created by participants in the Tracy's Kids Art Therapy Programs and pediatric cancer and hematology patients in Jordan, Israel, Turkey, and Egypt. The show was co-sponsored by the Middle East Cancer Consortium. The goal of the show is for young people in all the participating centers to learn about one another's lives through artwork and story. The entire show is displayed by thematically in this gallery, and we hope to send the show to each of the participating countries.

Here are some photos of our February 10 event, courtesy of official photographer "Fitz." Over 550 guests, great movies and Lucky Strike's hospitality made it a great time for a good cause! Ten-year old former cancer patient Elizabeth Cramer stole the show with her reflections on what the program means to her. Senator John McCain graciously accepted the Tracy's Kids Courage Award, joining prior recipients Senator Tim and Barbara Johnson, Marcelle Leahy and Senator Arlen Spector.

The fifth annual Tracy's Kids Red Carpet Extravaganza was a great success. Congresswoman Deborah Wasserman-Schultz received our Tracy's Kids Courage Award,and spoke eloquently of the impact of our programs on young patients' and families' lives during treatment. Preston Padden received the first Tracy's Kids Lifetime Achievement Award for his tireless and generous work on our behalf. Program participant Amanda Johnson brought down the house with her reflections on how Tracy's Kids helped her through her cancer experiences. Art Therapists Kathleen Sutter and Catherine Rubin recounted some of the little miracles they witness every day.It was an evening of warm celebration, Washington-style, as you will see from the photos!
